Director of the Serbian power company (EPS) electricity supply unit Aleksandar Bjelicic told the Serbian state TV (RTS) that 45 percent of the 3.37 million households in Serbia reduced their electricity consumption in October, so 1.5 million households are entitled to a discount on their electricity bills.

Households that save electricity can reduce their bills from 15 to 30 percent from October of May. Savings are calculated in relation to the same month last year, and the first savings were already recorded in the October bills that were sent out to the consumers in November.

Bjelicic told RTS that 45 percent of the 3.37 homes in Serbia reduced their electricity consumption in October 2022 compared to October 2021, so that 1.5 million homes are entitled to a discount.

“Most of the households got a 30 percent discount (approximately 700,000 households), 554,000 households or 16 percent of households got a 15 percent discount, and eight percent of households (264,000) were approved an eight percent discount,” said Bjelicic.

He added that those with electricity-based home heating got the highest discounts probably because the outside temperatures were higher this year than last and that the biggest savings were seen in the capital of Belgrade, and in the cities of Sremska Mitrovica, Subotica and Zrenjanin.
