On the thousandth day of the war in Ukraine, the Russian anti-war community in Serbia organized an event in Belgrade on Tuesday called “A Thousand Portraits of War,” visually highlighting the suffering of Ukrainian civilians in the conflict that has been ongoing since February 24, 2022.

Anti-war activist Anna Gorelik told N1 that a Russian-Israeli artist began painting portraits of fallen Ukrainian civilians from the very first day of the war.

“I have been following him and looking at these portraits for 1,000 days. That was my inspiration,” she said.

The event was held in the afternoon at a park in central Belgrade, with participants standing and holding portraits of killed Ukrainians.
