140 Serbians die daily of cardiovascular diseases

Approximately 140 people in Serbia die daily of cardiovascular diseases, 45 have a heart attack and one in four does not survive, Cardiology Society of Serbia president Dragan Simic said Friday.

He explained that the leading risk factors include obesity, high blood pressure, high “bad” cholesterol (LDL), lack of physical activity and smoking.
Speaking at a conference within the ‘What is important for the heart’ initiative, Simic stressed that high blood pressure (hypertension) is one of the most common causes of cardiovascular diseases in Serbia and that the number of patients is constantly increasing.
