North Macedonian police discovered ten tons of marijuana in Skopje at the site of the former OHIS industrial complex, which serves as the registered headquarters of the company Alfafarm DOO Skopje. A second seizure took place in the Strumica region.
North Macedonian media reported that the police operation lasted throughout the day on February 5. The total haul of nearly 27 tons marks the largest drug seizure in North Macedonia’s history. Eyewitness reports described a massive police presence at the former OHIS factory late Thursday afternoon, with dozens of vans, five trucks, and various police and customs vehicles entering the premises.
The authorities have not yet released official details, stating that the operation is still ongoing.
Investigators suspect that massive quantities of the drug were destined for the black market, while suspicious changes in the company’s ownership structure were observed just days before the drug seizure in Serbia.
This record-breaking bust in North Macedonia is directly connected to a January 29 event in Serbia, where five tons of the same drug were discovered in the village of Konjuh. That seizure occurred on the estate of Rade Spasojevic, a local businessman and official of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
In Serbia, five people have been named as suspects in the Konjuh case, though two remain at large. They face charges of unauthorized production and distribution of narcotics.
