Kosovo should not be sole EU criteria for Serbia

Serbia’s road to the European Union should not depend only on the Kosovo issue, Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic said.

The European Union would be wrong to decide that Serbia’s road to the EU depends only on the question of Kosovo, she told the Serbian state radio TV (RTS).

The Kosovo issue is linked to the European integration process in some ways but it is separate and at the same time parallel but if that is the only thing that Serbia’s road to the EU depends on it will be the wrong decision by the EU, Joksimovic said.

This is not just a question for Serbia alone but for the region and the EU and I think that the prevailing view in the end will be that progress and reforms are a sufficiently good reason for a continued positive attitude towards Serbia in regard to European integration, she said.

Reforms, development, pre-accession funds, new jobs and investments are things that motivate us to remain on the European integration path, she said.
