Kosovo’s Foreign Minister Behgjet Pacolli said no one had right to interfere with full and equal participation of Kosovo at the EU-Western Balkans summit in Sofia on May 17, Fonet news agency reported.

“This meeting should be looked at as an opportunity for sharing new energy between the EU and the Western Balkans six countries, for bolstering infrastructure, digitalisation, interpersonal relations, and as a chance for closer cooperation in fighting common challenges such as safety, migrations, geopolitical development and good neighbourly relations,” Pacolli told Kossev agency on Monday (April 9).

His words followed decision by three EU member states – Spain, Romania and Cyprus, which have not recognised Kosovo independence – that they would not take part at the summit if Kosovo “is treated as a state and if the EU offers it the same European integrations as to other countries” from the region.

The decision may jeopadrise the summit.

Belgrade has still not decided whether to participate, linking its decision to the formation of Community of Serb Municipalities (CSM) in Kosovo which the Serbs announced for April 20, saying it had been postponed since 2013, while the EU gave Pristina a four-month deadline for the move.
