Serbia could join the European Union by 2025 if it implements the necessary reforms, European Union Delegation chief in Serbia Sem Fabrizi said on Thursday.

“If Serbia implemented the necessary refoms the year 2025 is a potential date for it to join the EU,” Fabrizi said at a presentation of the European Commission annual report at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS), adding that the date for membership is not fixed.

He said the period to 2025 is both long and short and warned that two years are needed for ratification once everything else is accomplished. “The perspective exists but the message from the European Commission report is that there are a lot of things that Serbia has to resolve urgently starting from changes to the Constitution,” Fabrizi said.

Earlier, Fabrizi presented the report to Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic.
