Belgrade honours Sajmiste concentration camp victims

Holocaust Remembrance Day was marked in Belgrade on Sunday at the memorial to the World War II genocide victims.

The event was attended by those who survived concentration camps, members of the victims’ families, representatives of Jewish communities of Serbia, Roma ethnic minority, diplomats and citizens.

The state-sponsored ceremony was led by the Serbia’s Minister of Labour, Employment, Veterans’ and Social Issues Zoran Djordjevic.

The Sajmiste concentration camp, located at the Belgrade’s old fairground, was the most infamous Nazi concentration camp on the territory of Serbia. Mass killings of its inmates, Serbs, Jews and Roma, took place in the 1941-1944 period.
