The drafting of a new national media strategy has been stopped following consultations between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Ana Brnabic.

The President’s media advisor Suzana Vasiljevic said on Monday that Vucic wants the drafting of the strategy to be more open and called the OSCE to join in the process.

Vasiljevic called everyone affected by the strategy to join in the process and suggested the forming of a new working group which would include both local and foreign media organizations.

The new national media strategy is intended to regulate and define the media scene in Serbia up to the year 2023. The drafting of the new media strategy was started in 2017 and was plagued by disagreements with some working group members, including representatives of both major journalist organizations, quitting in protest.
