The government and opposition in Kosovo expressed different views on the findings of European Commission team which is assessing efforts by Pristina to combat corruption and organized crime, Pristina media reported on Thursday.
Kosovo’s Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri said the team will pass a positive assessment and the Commission will propose a liberalization of the visa regime for citizens of Kosovo travelling to the European Union. “I believe the assessment will be positive and the European Commission will propose the abolishing of visas. Then it’s up to the EU member states to decide on the visa liberalization,” Tahiri said.
Minister for European Integration Durata Hoxha said she agrees that the assessment will be positive and the recommendation to ease the visa regime will be made in June with visas being abolished by the end of the year while the opposition voiced scepticism, saying that not enough has been done to get the recommendation.
