The Kosovo government adopted the Statute of the Trepca Shareholder Society which gives it 80 percent of the shares in that mining company and 20 percent to its employees.

The statute says that the Trepca company consists of the mines and flotation facilities Stari Trg, Kisnica, Novo Brdo and Kopaonik Leposavic along with the lead and zinc processing plant and a chemical facility which are yet to be formed. The statute will be sent on to parliament for adoption.

The Trepca mining and metal processing company has been claimed by both the governments in Pristina and Belgrade.

The company’s facilities have been divided between Albanians and Serbs just like the divided town of Kosovska Mitrovica with both registering companies under the same name and the Kosovo parliament adopting a law claiming all rights to the coal and metal mines and plants. Pristina also refuses to include Trepca in the dialogue with Belgrade.
