Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday he was not optimistic about the forthcoming talks with the Pristina representatives in Brussels, but added Belgrade would not abandon the dialogue because the discussion is the only way to a compromise.

Serbia’s President told reporters he was worried because of the frequent attacks on the Kosovo Serbs in recent days, saying they were a part of an intimidation campaign.

Vucic said that “we have managed to preserve peace and stability so far, but that becomes increasingly difficult because the Albanians are getting more and more upset.”

“We are looking at the Brussels talks... I’m not an optimist, but the Serbs will put a lot of effort to reach a compromise,” he said at an opening of a two-day international conference organised by the anti-corruption Pistaljka (Whistle) website.

The Serbian President recalled that a certain number of Serbian police and military personnel was supposed to return to Kosovo to guard religious and heritage sites under UN Security Council resolution 1244, adding that he often mentions that fact in contacts with foreign officials. “

The usual answer is that if Serbia tries to enter Kosovo with military or police forces, NATO would consider that a hostile act and we would be in a conflict with the most powerful alliance in the world. That shows how serious the situation is and reflects the fact that people are not interested in the law but only in force and the situation on the ground. I don’t talk of this often … and I won’t say that this is just,” Vucic said.
