Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin told Belgrade daily newspaper Alo that the protests over fuel prices in Serbia are identical to the protest in the Ukraine in 2013, predicting that demands for the resignations of the head of state and government will come soon.
“We won’t even remember the fuel in a few days and we will have demands for the resignation of the government, president of the republic and no one will remember why things started,” Vulin said, adding that a “media coalition” will appear with the aim of ousting the authorities.
“They are using identical methods. You can’t expect the same to happen in Serbia without identical consequences as at Maidan where a civil war almost broke out,” the Serbian Defence Minister said.
Ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) official Milovan Drecun agrees with the Defence Minister. Speaking on Serbian state TV (RTS) Drecun said the protests are an attempt to destabilize the government prior to important decisions, including decisions on Kosovo.
“This is a final test of internal pressure on the authorities aimed at destabilization,” the chairman of the parliament Kosovo Committee said. The blocking of roads and highways to protest against high fuel prices also pose a danger to the economy, tourism and people of ill health, he said.
