Serbia’s Minister: Chess game with Kosovo without both rooks

Any Kosovo solution needs more realism and less populism, Rasim Ljajic, Serbia’s Trade, Telecommunication and Tourism Minister, has said on Monday.

In his article for Belgrade Kurir daily Ljajic said that two possibilities had dominated so far – the frozen conflict and the division.

“The first one is possible, but damaging, while it is too late for the second one,” he wrote.

„In this big chess game, Serbia has black pieces and does not have two rooks. That’s why it is important not to use this issue in daily politics, but to treat it as the key state matter which the future of the entire society depends on,” Ljajic said.

Regarding the frozen conflict, Ljajic believes it will only be a furtherance of agony for Belgrade itself and its relations with Pristina, while the division of Kosovo is no longer an option since there is no significant political players’ readiness for it.
