The European Union diplomacy chief, Federica Mogherini, who mediates the talks, will meet with Aleksandar Vucic and Hashim Thaci, the presidents of Serbia and Kosovo respectively, to continue the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue on normalisation of relations.

European Commission spokeswoman, Maja Kocijancic said that topic would be the next necessary steps for the progress of the overall process.

Wednesday’s meeting will be the second at the highest level after a three-month break following Pristina’s arrest of Serbia’s official in March, who was on a visit to northern Kosovo without permission from Pristina’s authorities.

After the previous round of talks in June, both Vucic and Thaci said they had not been optimistic.

Their positions remain distant since Pristina insists on Belgrade’s full recognition of Kosovo’s independence, while Serbia’s leadership says they will never accept Kosovo as a state.

Prior to his talks with Mogherini and Thaci Vucic met with the French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris. Macron said France would support Serbia on its way to the EU.
