
The Serbian Public Health Institute reported on Tuesday that four people died after contracting the West Nile virus in the past week.
According to the report, a total of 286 people contracted the disease this year and 29 of those have died.
Cases of West Nile virus have been reported in 14 districts with the most cases – 141 – reported in Belgrade.
The mosquito-bourne disease was first reported in Serbia in 2012 with a total of 574 cases reported by the year 2017, including 61 deaths, the Public Health Institute report said.
