Montenegro has always strongly supported the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue, but the country’s Foreign Minister warns that the regional safety and stability should be thought of concerning the ideas of border changes, the FoNet news agency reported on Tuesday.
Srdjan Darmanovic told the Voice of America (VOA) that a solution based on the territory swap in the Balkans “has always been a sensitive job.”
“That must be with the guarantees that the Balkans would remain stable,” he said.
“We encourage (Belgrade and Pristina) to find a solution (on normalisation of relations), but we all have to take into account a wider architecture of the Western Balkans so that it is not violated,” Darmanovic said in New York at the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting.
Speaking about Podgorica – Washington connections, he said they were “relations of a stable partnership within NATO, and of a high level of understanding concerning the bilateral relations and the world’s problem regardless of the discrepancy in size between the two countries.”
