The Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo and the leading Kosovo Serb political party on Tuesday condemned the reported burglaries of 15 Kosovo Serb houses in a village outside the town of Klina.

“This ruthless attack on Serb property should be viewed in the light of the weeks-long campaign to intimidate Serbs south of the Ibar river and that practice needs to stop immediately so that the sensitive security situation would not be upset,” the Office for Kosovo said in a press release.

It called the international community “not to turn a blind eye before the fact that the Serb people in Kosovo are daily under attack by extremists disguised as burglars who are sowing fear in the enclaves south of the Ibar by stealing cattle and breaking into houses”.

The press release warned that Serbia will not allow the systematic violation of the human rights and security of the Serbs.

The Serb List political party also condemned the burglaries and an assault on an 88 year old woman as part of the continuing policy of intimidation, to prevent the return of refugees and expel the remaining Serbs.

“Attacks like these are the direct result of the heightened tensions following unilateral steps taken by Albanian representatives, creating an atmosphere of impunity for attacks on Serbs,” the Serb List statement said and called EULEX and KFOR to take steps in line with their mandates.
