The parade, held under the slogan In the Name of Freedom, was organized by NGOs advocating human rights as part of Pride Week to raise awareness about and strengthen the LGBT community. It started in front of the government headquarters.
Haradinaj said that sexual orientation is an individual right which every society has to respect. “Very fortunately, we as a young state have a constitution which secures individual rights for all. The LGBTI and Pride Week will have institutional support,” Haradinaj wrote on his Facebook profile.
The parade was attended by a number of foreign ambassadors, the European Union bureau chief Nataliya Apostolova and Pristina Mayor Spend Ahmeti. The only cabinet member present was European Integration Minister Durata Hoxha.
Pristina media reported the results of a poll by the National Democratic Institute which showed that 97 percent of the polled would not live in the same home as a member of the LGBT community while just 3 percent said they would accept the fact that their child is part of that community.
