Serbian police ministry denies rape reports

The Serbian Internal Affairs Ministry on Monday denied reports of the rape of 17 year old girl by migrants, saying no such crime has been reported.

A press release said that the reports on social networks of “the rape of a 17 year old girl on the corner of central Belgrade’s Sarajevska and Nemanjina streets in plain sight of passers by” had not been reported. “That event was not registered on the territory of Belgrade,” it said.

The press release added that no medical institution in the city had registered any similar event nor had there been a medical intervention at the site of the alleged rape. The reports on social networks said that “the girl was left lying on the ground before doctors arrived on the scene”.

The police will launch an investigation to find the persons who published the allegations on social networks, the ministry said.
