Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said on Monday that he will warn UN Security Council session on November 8 that the forming of a military force in Kosovo runs counter to its resolution 1244.
He said that the entire international community has been saying that the forming of Kosovo armed forces is unacceptable, adding that even the people who showed understanding for Pristina’s desire said it had to be done by changing the constitution and not just merely adopting new laws.
The foreign minister said that Serbia wants the UN mission to remain in Kosovo in the same size and with the same powers. The stories of an end to UNMIK and the start of the forming of a military in Kosovo are additional challenges and causes of instability, he said.
The UN mission in Kosovo was set up under UN Security Council resolution 1244 and can only be abolished with a new resolution, he said and added that China has a firm stand on Kosovo and that new resolution will not get past it.
The Serbian foreign minister said that Pristina won’t be able to get a two thirds majority in Interpol to become a member of that organization. Serbia is opposed to Kosovo’s membership in Interpol because that could bring it into the UN through a side door, he said. Pristina wants this as a diplomatic victory but it can’t join international organizations without a solution for the status issue.
