Independent institutions in Serbia have been regressing on some issues over the past 10 years, Transparency Serbia Programme Director Nemanja Nenadic said on Tuesday.

“Some things have been set up but Serbia has regressed in terms of the attitude of politicians towards bodies which should be controlling them,” Nenadic told a conference on independent and regulatory bodies.

He warned that the Commissioner in charge of protecting personal data and public information was not included in the Constitution and could be abolished by whoever is in power. Nenadic recalled that the State Auditing Institution and the Ombudsman have been included in the constitution which protects them from being easily abolished.
