Serb representative in Kosovo says situation is 'alarming'

He called the food situation caused by the blockade “alarming.”

Simic told Serbia’s ‘Kurir’ that, should Kosov not retract the decision, Kosovska Mitrovic will run out of food in nine days and that Serbs in Kosovo will on Tuesday continue their peaceful protest over Pristina’s attempt to “ghettoise Serbs” in Kosovo.

The north of Kosovo, particularly Kosovska Mitrovica, has a Serb majority and it relies on imports from Serbia. But since Pristina raised the tariffs, those goods can hardly be found in Kosovska Mitrovica.

Simic also said that food and medications in the healthcare centre of Kosovska Mitrovica will run out in nine days, while there is only enough food in the Student Centre there for another six days under reduced consumption.

He also praised the decision by Serbian producers who have agreed they will not raise the prices of their goods while they are still available.

The atmosphere among citizens is tense, he said.
