Serbia’s police arrested 38 people and filed criminal charges against 21 others in action to curb financial crime and corruption, the Interior Ministry (MUP) said on Monday.
It added that the arrests happened in several separate actions in ten cities and towns across Serbia in the last few days in coordination with the Tax police and public prosecutors.
The arrested people are suspected of multiple crimes they have committed since 2016, causing 1,550,000 Euros of damage to the state budget, companies and individuals.
The charge sheet says they are under suspicion of offering and taking a bribe, abuse of office, influence peddling, forest devastation and theft, forgery of official IDs, illegal trade, tax evasion and other crimes.
