Milo Djukanovic, Montenegro's President, said on Tuesday his country would be the next European Union member state, adding that only united Europe could be stable, the FoNet news agency reported.

He said the integration of the Western Balkans was of essential importance for Europe.

„That’s an imperative which brings benefits to all, and that’s why I think they (the EU) don’t have the right to give up on a vision (about United Europe),“ Djukanovic said.

He added he understood the voices saying it was necessary to consolidate Europe.

“It should be done,” Djukanovic said, “but without jeopardising the vision of united Europe.”

He added that it was a turning point for both Montenegro and the Balkans “to go back to their European home.”

“That’s the only good choice not just for Montenegro and the Western Balkans, but for Europe as well,” Djukanovic said.
