Serbian opposition leader and former national Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic told Belgrade daily Danas that President Aleksandar Vucic should be questioned in the investigation into the killing of Kosovo Serb political leader Oliver Ivanovic.

Jankovic, who heads the Movement of Free Citizens, said its incomprehensible that Vucic was not interviewed by investigators. “However, legal reasons are not dominant in Serbia,” he said.

Vucic said earlier this week that one of the alleged suspects in the Ivanovic murder Milan Radoicic was not guilty. Jankovic was questioned by prosecutors about his frequent contacts with Ivanovic, warning him that he was in danger. Jankovic said he was told by Ivanovic about the danger, especially after his meeting with Vucic.

“During that meeting (Ivanovic) said who, where and how had threatened him… Vucic asked him if he was planning to cooperate with the (Belgrade-supported) Serb List and when Ivanovic said he does not want to work with people in politics and crime, Vucic said nothing for the next 40 minutes (to the end of the meeting),” Jankovic said, adding that he told Ivanovic that this was a bad sign which led him to believe that Ivanovic’s life was in danger.
