Serbia’s Labour and Social Affairs Minister Zoran Djordjevic said on Wednesday that pensions will be higher next year if the state budget records a surplus.

“We have to have clear indicators that the state budget will end the year with a surplus before you can share it out,” he said adding that the government has to see if the decision to raise pensions will not take things in some other direction.

If a surplus exists, the government will disclose the level of the surplus and the manner in which it should be shared out to the population, the minister said.

The Serbian government has announced higher public sector salaries and pensions next year.
