Serbia’s former President, now leader of the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDS), said on Saturday that President Aleksandar Vucic will not go peacefully, that he has “started making mistakes” and that the ongoing protest in Belgrade has shaken his government.

“Aleksandar Vucic will not leave office peacefully, as power is the only thing protecting him and people within his oligarch circles from criminal responsibility for what they have done over the past six years,” SDS leader Boris Tadic told the ‘Danas’ newspaper.

Vucic is a person who is “craving power” and “enjoying the construction of his own personality cult,” Tadic said, adding that this is why the President cannot “imagine his life without governing everything.”

According to Tadic, Vucic is “trying to apply the recipes” stemming from the time of former Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic against the ongoing protests in Belgrade with propaganda and by convincing the public that there are a lot fewer people protesting while portraying the opposition as violent and accusing them of being foreign agents.

Tadic also said that opposition parties should join and be represented with a single entry on the ballots “instead of fighting for the position of the leader on the Titanic.”

Protests against violence, targeting the Government of Vucic’s party, have been ongoing in Belgrade throughout the past few Saturdays.
