Serbia is still a flawed democracy whose ranking has not changed in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Democracy Index 2018.
The index covers a total of 165 countries and two territories, with just 20 countries ranked in the Full Democracy category. Another 55, including Serbia, are ranked as Flawed Democracies, 39 are Hybrid Regimes and 53 countries are ranked as Authoritarian Regimes in the latest EIU report.
Serbia was given 6.41 out of a possible 10 points, ranking it 63rd globally and 11th regionally. The country was awarded the most points in the Electoral Process and Pluralism category (8.25) and the least in Political Culture (5.0) and Functioning of Government (5.36).
Regionally, Croatia ranked better with 6.57 points while Albania with 5.98, Macedonia with 5.87, Montenegro with 5.74 and Bosnia-Herzegovina with 4.98 points ranked lower.
