Serbian Trade and Telecommunications Minister Rasim Ljajic has called the public prosecutor to react to claims about him made in a book by ultra-nationalist politician Vojislav Seselj.
Ljajic said it would be unnatural for people to say that the leader of the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) is mad and writes books about everyone. In a law-abiding state, either I would have to be in jail because of Seselj’s accusations or he would have to be in jail for making false accusations,” Ljajic told Friday’s edition of Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti.
Ljajic’s statement came in reaction to Seselj’s 1,000 page book The Novi Pazar King of Heroin Rasim Ljajic.
Seselj is known for his accusations against political opponents. He is an advocate of Greater Serbia and Serb nationalism. Ljajic is a Muslim from the Sandzak area of western Serbia which has a large Muslim population.
Speaking in parliament several months ago, Seselj accused Ljajic of heading a drug cartel and called for an investigation.
