Serbia’s Mining and Energy Minister Aleksandar Antic expects energy security to be one of the main topics to be discussed during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit.

Antic told the Serbian state TV (RTS) that the issue would “top the agenda” and added that a number of agreement on natural gas supplies would be signed during the visit, including agreements to expand the Banatski Dvor storage facility and the construction of a gas transport system, use of Russian liquid gas as well as on the reconstruction of the Djerdap 2 hydro power plant.

The minister said the energy situation in Serbia is stable with secure supplies of fuels. “We are currently not providing stable supplies for just 0.18 percent of consumers which is below the European level of one percent. There is enough gas and heating oil,” Antic said.

The energy minister recalled that Serbia is under obligation to increase the amount of power supplied from renewable sources, adding that the country now has 170 mini hydro power plants producing 65 Megawatts of power.
