“With such a wife, Oliver (Ivanovic, a murdered Kosovo Serb leader) did not need an enemy. The woman who dances in Belgrade clubs several months after her husband was killed and did not attend the first anniversary of the assassination is a devil woman,” Zeljko Veselinovic tweeted.

The tweet was later deleted, but provoked bitter reactions by Serbia’s Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, the Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic, but also Veselinovic’s colleague from the SzS Dragan Djilas and the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic.

Djilas said “an apology won’t be enough.”

A while ago, Veselinovic posted a tweet insulting Brnabic and was also heavily criticised, but remained in the SzS.

Milena Popovic, Ivanovic’s wife, said she was not surprised by Veselinovic’s tweet, but that she was afraid for her safety and that of her son after it, adding Veselinovic drew a target on both of them.

Ivanovic was gunned down outside his party's headquarters on January 16, 2018. Belgrade and Pristina lead the separate investigations into the murder accusing each other of lack of cooperation.

One of the demands by anti-government protesters in Belgrade, who gather every Saturday for a month and a half, is that killers and organisers of the assassination be found. They say another rally on January 16 will be dedicated to Ivanovic.
