Belgrade’s deputy Mayor Goran Vesic said on Tuesday that the fountain on central Slavija square would be lit up in the colours of the Serbian and Russian flags in honour of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Putin is scheduled to visit the Serbian capital on Thursday, January 17.
“As of this evening, the fountain on Slavija will be in the colours of the Serbian and Russian Flags in honour of President Putin,” Vesic wrote on his Facebook profile.
The Centre for the Development of Belgrade, a so far unknown NGO, said last week that it would organize a gathering as a show of respect for Putin in front of the St Sava temple which is expected to be attended by some 70,000 people. That gathering has the support of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
