Putin said he appreciates Vucic’s principled stand in maintaining good relations between the two countries, adding that the Serbian president is a true fried while Vucic responded in Russian saying that the award is a great honour for Serbia and himself and obliges him to work at future relations. He added that he is proud of “my Serbia which has deserved this award”.

Vucic said that the Russian president is important to the vital interests of the Serbian people. “Our Serbian people will never forget what Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin did in 2015 when Russia vetoed the British resolution which would have declared the Serbs to be a genocidal nation. President Putin protected the truth and justice then which is why we have a huge responsibility for everything we do in the future. Our countries have good relations and we certainly have great opportunities to expand our cooperation in economic issues,” he said, adding that Serbia has managed to maintain its military neutrality over the past few years.
