Novi Sad University professors and lawyers from across Serbia have expressed their support for the #1in5Million anti-government protests.
More than 70 teaching staff and associates at the Novi Sad University School of Philosophy signed a statement saying they felt that it is their moral obligation to tell the public that institutions are being destroyed along with democratic values, the culture of dialogue and freedom of the media along with political, economic and cultural liberties.
The statement said that the support was not for any political party, coalition or individual but was aimed at encouraging people to freely express their dissatisfaction with the situation in the country at the peaceful civic protests.
A statement signed by lawyers from across the country expressed support for the civic protests and demanded the resignations of President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Ana Brnabic. The lawyers also want parliament to elect a transitional expert government “with a prime minister who enjoys an undisputed social reputation with a mission to establish conditions for presidential and parliamentary elections”.
The lawyers also warned about the destruction of the political system and concentration of power in the hands of one man.
