Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) official Aleksandar Martinovic said that Sabic was “an opposition politician under the mask of the commissioner”. He added that the ruling party has several candidates to fill the post but did not specify when the new commissioner would be appointed, saying that procedures have to be respected.
Speaking at a meeting on personal data protection, EU Delegation chief Fabrizi said the procedures have to be launched as soon as possible with full respect for professional standards and the independence of the new commissioner.
OSCE mission chief Andrea Orizio told the same meeting that his organization believes that respect of the right to privacy, as a human right is a condition of security. He called the Serbian authorities to provide added support to the commissioner in his important work, adding that the election of a new commissioner transparently and on time would be the best support.
