The Ministers of culture of Croatia and Serbia met in Zagreb on Monday to discuss a conference on the Jasenovac World War 2 death camp.

The meeting between ministers Nina Obuljen Korzinek and Vladan Vukosavljevic discussed the organization of the conference in Belgrade, Zagreb and Jasenovac, bringing historians from both sides together.

The Jasenovac camp complex was set up and run by the World War 2 fascist organization the Ustashi in the Nazi puppet Independent State of Croatia. Historians disagree on the exact number of Serbs, Jews and Roma killed there but do agree that thousands were killed in the camps.

A statement from the Serbian culture ministry said that Vukosavljevic and his Croatian counterpart also agreed that high standards had been achieved in respect of national minority rights and cultural exchanges.

The Croatian culture ministry said in a statement that the return of cultural heritage from Serbia was being completed. „A total of 29,885 pieces were returned from Serbia to Croatia to museums, churches, monasteries and archives with the remaining large pieces due to be returned to the Krka and Sibenik monasteries,“ it added.
