Serbian labour minister says youth unemployment drops

“The number of young people in the overall number of unemployed dropped from 22.4 percent in 2017 to 19.9 percent in December 2018,” Djordjevic told a conference on labour opportunities for young people.  

He said his Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs had formed a coordination team to draft measures to stop the brain drain. “A majority of unemployed young people are engaged in active job search measures which are aimed at informing them about the labour market and teach them how to look for work and present themselves to employers,” he said.  

The ministry will continue combatting the gray economy, adding that young people frequently accept jobs in the gray zone after they finish school.  

He said an agreement would be signed in March 2019 to promote the highest standards in labour, employment and social policy.
