Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had separate telephone conversations with European Commissioner Johannes Hahn and State Department official Wess Mitchell about the situation in the region, especially Belgrade-Pristina relations, a statement said on Wednesday.
Vucic and Hahn discussed the situation in the Western Balkans, especially Belgrade-Pristina relations and the next steps on Serbia’s European path, it added.
Vucic expressed Serbia’s readiness to continue the dialogue after Pristina revokes what he said were unjustified tariffs on Serbian goods which he said endangers the daily lives of Serbs in Kosovo as well as the Serbian economy. He is quoted as telling Hahn that Pristina’s irresponsible unilateral measure is affecting relations and the stability of the region.
Hahn is quoted as welcoming Serbia’s readiness to preserve peace and stability.
The statement from the president’s cabinet said that Vucic discussed the same issues with US assistant Secretary of State for Europe Wess Mitchell as well as ways to overcome the break in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue which was caused by the introduction of the tariffs.
Mitchell is quoted as saying that he expects Pristina to revoke the tariffs on Serbian goods and create conditions to continue the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.
Vucic told Mitchell that Serbia is prepared to continue the dialogue once the tariffs are revoked.
