European Union officials are hoping that the pressure on Pristina will help get the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue back on track soon, Radio Free Europe reported on Monday.
Unnamed sources in EU High Representative Federica Mogherini’s cabinet told RFE that they are ready to continue the dialogue as soon as Pristina revokes the 100 percent tariffs on goods from Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, adding that the Kosovo government’s decision to impost the tariffs was counterproductive and affected EU companies.
Those sources added that intensive, marathon talks could be held every week.
The EU officials said they hope that the pressure from Brussels and Washington would convince Pristina to revoke the tariffs. They said elections in Kosovo would be the worst possible scenario. “New elections mean a new delay in the dialogue and no one wants that because we are under huge pressure because of time,” a diplomatic source told RFE and explained that this is an election year in the EU. “We are not sure that the new European Commission will be as committed to solving the Kosovo issue as Mogherini and Commissioner Johannes Hahn are,” the source said.
