The Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS) and Independent Society of Journalists of Vojvodina (NDNV) lent their support to N1 TV following the latest threats to the station’s journalists and their families.

A joint statement called for an immediate investigation and appropriate punishment for the people behind the threats.

The NUNS and NDNV said that “it is high time that state officials, primarily President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Ana Brnabic condemn the horrifying threatening message to the NT”.

“Without that clear and unequivocal condemnation, it would definitively become clear what the two journalists’ associations have been saying for a long time – that the current authorities are directly responsible for the atmosphere of hatred and fear which is spreading daily across Serbia. The more so since, by alluding that N1 has recognized the independence of Kosovo, members of the authorities are directly motivating and encouraging comments on social networks which are saying that the TV station and its journalists are traitors,” the statement said.

It said that the NUNS and NDNV would inform international journalists’ and media organizations about the latest threats and the actions of state institutions.
