Serbia’s opposition drafts "Agreement with People”, no joint election list yet

“The Agreement with People” document coordinates further activities “to establish a democratic state and the rule of law,” the party statement said.

The organisers of Saturday’s civil protest #1 in 5 million held in Belgrade for two months and spread to over 50 places in Serbia in the meantime, agreed with the demonstrators to ask the opposition what their ideas were about how to come to power, how to rule and how to step down if they broke promises.

So far, the opposition leaders, who attended the protests, did not address the crowd, nor any party symbols were seen during the rallies in Belgrade and elsewhere.

Zivkovic, former Serbia’s Prime Minister and ex-head of the Democratic Party, said the opposition reached a compromise which did not mean giving up on the fundamental values of the European Serbia, but quite the opposite, it meant “the joint struggle with the main goal – to stop further deteriorating of the state which has been going on for seven years.”

Serbia has been ruled by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) led by President Aleksandar Vucic since 2012.

“We agreed today on the document called "Agreement with People’, with Serbia’s citizens, and will make it public on Wednesday. The document is our way to a common aim – normal, healthy state in the 21 century Europe,” Zivkovic said.

He added that the only obstacle on that way was Vucic’s regime.

“This Agreement will remove that obstacle, and the regime will be dethroned,” Zivkovic said.
