The code was drawn up to promote prevention and more efficient implementation of laws. It was published on the ministry web site.

The code says that inspectors should opt to prevent and advise rather than punish, Minister Branko Ruzic said. “The goal is to improve the reputation of inspectors and strengthen trust among business people and citizens,” he said.

The code says that inspectors have to respect business people and try to help them in their business operations. Inspectors also have to behave politely and in a professional manner towards business owners and employees showing patience and understanding.

Ruzic said that the code states that there will be zero tolerance for corruption, that is that inspectors cannot tolerate corruption and must combat it in every form.
