Without guarantees for Serbia’s recognition and a possibility for the UN membership, there is no sense in having any kind of dialogue, Kosovo President Hashim Thaci told the Voice of America (VOA) in Albanian, the Beta news agency reported.

He said those two guarantees were “Kosovo’s red line.”

“We are working on a creative solution which will meet the interests of both Kosovo and Serbia, but also those of the US, NATO and the European Union,” Thaci said.

He added, “of course, there is no mutual recognition without clear borders between Serbia and Kosovo.”

He reiterated his old idea about border correction to include the annexation of Serbia’s southern district of Presevo Valley with the Albanian majority population.

However, on Wednesday, he said that even “minor border correction” would be acceptable if the price is a final deal with Belgrade.

Asked if Serbia would recognise Kosovo and would not obstruct its UN membership, would the talks include the northern part where the Serbs created a majority, Thaci said he could not speak “about something what was not demanded, or what Serbia might present. What I can say is that it would be an agreement between two sovereign states with mutual recognition.”
