Southern Serbia airport reports drop in traffic

The Konstantin Veliki airport had 12.4 percent less passengers and 6.3 percent less aircraft in January and February of 2019 compared to the same period of 2018.  

According to official data, the airport had 48,872 travellers and 195 aircraft in the first two months of 2019 compared to 55,806 passengers and 208 aircraft in the same period a year earlier.  

Nis airport serviced three cargo aircraft and a total of 49 tonnes of freight in January and February this year compared to six cargo aircraft and 121 tonnes of freight in the first two months of 2018.  

Konstantin Veliki has flights to 10 destinations in Europe at present which is one less than at the start of 2018.  

Ownership of the airport was transferred from the city authorities to the Serbian government amid wide-spread protests last year with claims that Kostantin Veliki would be side-lined because of the concession granted to the French Vinci Airports over Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla airport.
