Gathered outside the state RTS television headquarter, students from the University of Belgrade who were detained last Sunday for taking part in #1 in 5 million protests said peaceful demonstrations should go on, N1 reported.
A Law student Stefan Novakovic and his colleague from the Political Science Faculty said the police were correct, but that the media close to the President Aleksandar Vucic’s regime declared him as a hero for releasing the arrested young people, while, they said, only the truth liberated them.
“The whole media machinery that works in the interest of the regime tried to present Vucic as a liberator, adding the opposition left us unprotected. Because they used us for political purposes we call on young people to join us on Saturday because we only want justice and normal state,” Novakovic told N1.
The students added that neither the regime nor the opposition cared enough for the youth, but invited their colleagues to join them in the protest.
Asked what right they had to storm the RTS building on Saturday night, the students said there were no either the security or police at the RTS entrance and that during their entry and stay inside the building they had not seen any conflicts or incidents.
Nevertheless, the police arrested 18 people over the last weekend for taking part in the protests, and according to the Interior Ministry, eight were apprehended for a crime.
After Vucic’s statement that those arrested should be freed, the Higher Court ruled accordingly.
For some of them, the Court ordered new procedure.
