The Nielsen poll also showed that more than half of Serbian are spending more money on food than they did five years ago while 40 percent feel that they are financially better off than they were five years ago and 46 percent said they are spending more to pay their bills than before.

According to the poll, health is second to job security, followed by the danger of war and the economy, political stability and balancing private and professional aspects of life.

Just two percent of the polled said they have no money problems. The press release said that a large percentage of the polled don’t have money to spare and if they do they buy electronics which are preferred to clothing and footwear, meat, cosmetics and milk products.

About 25 percent of the polled feel comfortable spending money. Two thirds of Serbians spend money on basic needs with a few percent saying that their monetary situation has improved but not enough to spend money on things other than the basic needs.

According to the Nielsen agency, the Consumer Confidence Index rose in 2018 from 69 to 78, reaching the highest value ever in Serbia.
