Vucic with Mahatma Gandhi granddaughter: Non-violence only way

In a meeting with Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee in Belgrade, Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic expressed great respect for her grandfather Mahatma Gandhi’s historic role in fighting for India’s independence, the Beta news agency reported on Monday.

Last year, the two countries marked 70 years of diplomatic relations, and Vucic said that “our states have decades of friendship and cooperation based on the principles of the Non-aligned Movement, without unsolved issues, with mutual respect and a high level of support for the most important topics at the international forums.”

 “Today, with honest respect, we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of a man who reminded us that non-violent way was the only one we should go toward a victory without humiliation,” Vucic and Bhattacharjee said.

A statement after the meeting added the political dialogue between the two countries was at a high level, while the economic cooperation was also improving.

Bhattacharjee said it was a great privilege to be in Belgarde where she felt “like at home.”Her book “Reflections Of An Extraordinary Era” was published in Serbian.
