Serbian Liberal Democrat Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic spoke out on Monday against the 1 in 5 Million protests across the country, saying that they amounted to nothing.

He told the Serbian state TV (RTS) that the outcome of the protests is clear: “a great big nothing”.

“The street is not a place where you can talk about the economy, Europe and the media. When your policies are conducted on the street you have to know that this is how you define the road that society will take,” he said.

Jovanovic said he does not want to leave parliament because that is the only place to talk, adding that he knows of no one who achieved any goal by boycotting parliament.

Jovanovic came to prominence in the 1990s as the leader of a student protest which lasted for months and later rose in the ranks of the Democratic Party before forming the LDP.
