Serbian Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin said on Tuesday that Serbia cannot be blamed for the NATO intervention in 1999.

Speaking at a news conference before the premiere of the documentary feature film War Stories from Pastrik (Ratne Price sa Pastrika), Vulin said that Serbia did not cause the NATO air campaign and cannot “in any way” be to blame.

“It has been many years since they could tell their children that because their sons have been taught for decades that there was no heroic resistance and that the Serbs are to blame for the NATO aggression and evil that happened to them,” he said.

Vulin said he wants to believe that the statements by NATO officials regretting civilian victims of the NATO air strikes are truthful but added that he “believes that what they are saying is not enough”. “That regret will be truthful when they say they mourn every soldier and policeman because no one has the right to kill them in a sovereign state,” the defence minister said.
